Discover Nature with Expert-Guided Tours
The Lake House is thrilled to offer an unforgettable wildlife viewing experience on the pristine waters of Shuswap Lake and the Adams River. Led by Michael, co-owner and co-host of our 1800-square-foot rancher in Scotch Creek, these tours are more than just a boat ride or trail walk — they’re a deep dive into the natural wonders of British Columbia’s Shuswap region.
Meet Your Guide: Michael, Biologist and Certified Operator
Michael brings a wealth of expertise to every tour. As a commercially certified boat operator with Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) and Marine Emergency Duties (MED A3) certifications, he ensures your safety and comfort on the water. With years of professional guiding experience, Michael is also a biologist specializing in salmon ecology and biology. His passion for the nature shines through as he shares insights about the local ecosystem, from the majestic bald eagles soaring overhead to the incredible salmon life cycle that plays out in the Adams River, Scotch Creek and Shuswap Lake!
Wildlife Viewing Boat Tours on Shuswap Lake
Our wildlife viewing tours take place aboard our Four Winns fiberglass boat with an inboard motor, comfortably accommodating up to 7 guests. As we cruise the serene waters of Shuswap Lake near Scotch Creek, you’ll have the chance to spot bald eagles, otters, and other wildlife in their natural habitat. The tour also showcases the breathtaking natural beauty of the area, including the lush forests and distant mountains that frame the lake.
Adams River Salmon Run: A Seasonal Highlight
For a truly awe-inspiring experience, join Michael during the sockeye salmon spawning season in the Adams River, just a short distance from Scotch Creek. The Adams River hosts one of the largest sockeye salmon runs in British Columbia, with hundreds of thousands to millions of fish returning every year. The next dominant run will be in 2026, but smaller runs occur annually, offering a fascinating glimpse into this natural phenomenon.
Michael offers “walk and talk” tours along the Adams River, sharing his extensive knowledge of salmon ecology. Learn about the sockeye’s life cycle, their role in the ecosystem, and the cultural significance of this event to the local First Nations. This is a bucket-list experience for nature lovers and families alike.
